Extraordinary, matching five piece scarlet red Streamlined Commodore Vanderbilt Train set in original box. Includes track, key, inserts, instructions, and inspection slip. No dents or rust.

Here's the breakdown. 

Commodore Vanderbilt 597 sparkling locomotive (unmarked) - enameled pressed steel with flat (shovel-like) front shroud. Wind-up clockwork, start/stop switch, single direction. Tinned head light rim, open (sparkling) and closed tinned smokestacks, tinned drivers with pressed tin spoke wheels. Complete with original key. Size: 8¼". 

Pullman (Montclair) #1 (558A) - tin litho, embossed windows and doors, black embossed frame, tinned metal wheels. Size: 6". 

Pullman (Montclair) #2 (558A)) - description same as above.

Pullman Observation Car (558A) - tin litho, embossed windows and doors except for the two observation windows which are cut out. Copper finished observation platform rails and rear. Black embossed tin litho frame. Tinned metal wheels. Size: 6". 

Tender (New York Central) (551) - prewar version with five horizontal stripes. Scarlet red with black lettering and frame. Tinned metal wheels. This is the correct Commodore Vanderbilt type tender for this set. Size: 6".

Track - Curves (12), Straights (4) - total 13 ft. 

Box and Inserts - Features beautifully illustrated art deco cover with pre-1939 Marx logo. Stamped "575" on one of the endflaps. Very age darkened, but text and images can still be easily read. Locomotive insert is also very dark. Two car inserts are somewhat lighter. Size: 15" x 9¼" x 2½". 

Instructions and inspection tag - browned, poor condition, and critter eaten.
